Atlas Valleys Hike
Trekking tow Valleys from Imlil, The walking progresses through Berber villages, like Imelil and Tamatert, with apple, peach and walnut trees bright with blossom in the spring, and full of rural images of harvesting, threshing and irrigating unchanged for centuries, at other times of the year. The trail takes you up to 2279m before descending to Tinhourine and a night in a local Gite where you may choose to sleep under the African stars. After the large village of Tachddirt, the trail takes you over the Tizi nou Agersioual pass (2000m), before continuing to Agersioual village then back to Marrakech.
Most successful treks are tailor made with client requirements, age and numbers in consideration. Please have dates in mind and approximate number of people. |
All our treks include an English speaking guide, mules and a cook, transport to and from Marrakech and all food whilst on the trek. |
Walking Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech – Aguersioual – Tinhourine. Driving south into the High Atlas Mountains toward the village of Aguersioual, from where we trek up towards the Tizi-n’ Aguersioual from here we can look down into the deep gorge of the Imanane valley. After descending for an hour from the pass we stop for lunch beside the river. In the afternoon we follow the river to our accommodation in the tiny village of Tinhourine. (Total walking approx. 4/5hrs).overnight in gite (included meals: B, L, D)
Day 2: Tinhourine – Imlil -Aremd village. In the morning we leave Tinhourine and follow a zig zagging path which climbs up towards the Tizi-n’Tametert pass. We descend to a spring of Tametert where we stop for lunch before continuing walk through delightful groves of Walnut trees to the Berber village of Aremd. accommodation at our Berber Hostel (1950m).
Day 3: Aremd Village – Tizi Oussem. Today we trek across the Tizi Mzik Pass (2500m) from where there are good panoramic views of Mount Tazaghakht and the High Atlas, towards the beautiful Oussem Valley and the high summer pastures of Azib Tamsoult (2300m). Approx. 6 hours walking. Grade hard. Overnight in Gite.
Day 4: Tizi Oussem – Marrakech. An excellent final day’s trekking. The descent continues to the village of Tizi Oussem, an attractive route across forested hillsides which are home to wild boar, heading down through terraced fields and groves of fruit trees to Id Issa. The trail turns south-east and ascends to the Tizi n’Techt (2000m). We have a picnic lunch on the pass, and the trek ends with a fairly steep descent to the village of Imiourghlad (1350m). Approx. 6 hours walking. Four-wheel-drive transport will be waiting at the roadhead to take us back to Marrakech.
