Toubkal Hard Way

Most High Atlas trekkers make Jbel Toubkal (4167m/13,670ft), the highest peak in North Africa, their first goal. Toubkal is easy to reach from Marrakesh and can be tackled in just a couple of days. This is also an exceptionally striking region with a sharp; but this trek would require good level of fitness. You shouldn’t underestimate the effects of altitude.

Walking Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil — Aazib Tamsoult. Set out from Marrakech for 1 hour drive south way up to Imlil. We set off from 1740m up in a south-westerly direction for the Âazib Tamsoult (2250m), where we’ll overnight bivouac at 2700m above the Assif n’Ouarzane Valley. (Included meals: B, L, D).

Day 2: Aazib Tamsoult – Tizi Aguelzim – Toubkal Refuge. After breakfast, we now set out eastwards to the Tizi Aguelzim (3104m) we take south-east to the Toubkal (ex Neltner) Refuge at 3207m, where we shall have our dinner, either in bivouac around the Refuge or take cover in there for the night. (Included meals: B, L, D).

Day 3: Toubkal Refuge – Summit Jbel Toubkal – Marrakech. A very early breakfast to set out around 0500h, to the lure of a spectacular sunrise, after a three hour steep climb, the highest Toubkal summit (4167m). Once we have gained the summit of Jebel Toubkal we return back to the Toubkal Refuge then continue our descent to Imlil Where we met our minibus back to Marrakech.
